Pertamina Open Badminton Championships: Vega Vio Nirwanda topples Kevin Matthew in third round clash

The in-form Vega Vio Nirwanda, who is one of the most spirited shuttlers in the younger lot of Indonesia, showed a wonderful performance and toppled his lower ranked team-mate Kevin Matthew in Men’s Singles third round at the Pertamina Open Badminton Championships 2012 in Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 11.

The seventh seeded Vega Vio, who stayed confident throughout the tournament, continued putting up superb show of dominating badminton and remained successful in winning the third round clash in just 24 minutes.

Vega Vio was aggressive in the arena as he kept the pace of rallies at the highest level and remained successful in winning this battle in straight games with completely crushing margin on the score board.

On the contrary, the lower ranked Kevin could not stop the aggression of his opponent as he played negative badminton and eventually crashed out in the third round without putting up strong show.

The amazing speed and powerful strokes of Vega Vio favoured him to take control of the affairs from the opening points of first game.

The speed of the rallies was quite fast in opening game and Vega Vio entertained local crowd with his lofty skills.

Until the end of first half of opening set, the in-form Vega Vio obtained a strong position on board by taking a sufficient lead.

The underdog Kevin failed to play positive game after the one-minute break as he lost his focus in the arena.

Vega Vio continued employing powerful shots in targeted areas and took the opening game with an inspiring difference of 21-8.

Kevin geared up his speed to play positive badminton in the starting part of second game but he failed to pile up pressure on his rival.

Until the one-minute break, the lofty Vega Vio continued playing with control and variations and remained ahead on score board.

The planned and positive play in the ending half of second set assisted Vega Vio to grab the set with a comfortable 21-17 margin on the board.

Vega Vio emerged as victorious in this third round encounter in a smashing manner as he easily ended up the fight with a one-sided margin of 21-8 and 21-17.
