Arsenal crashes out by Bradford City from the Capital One Cup – Football News

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal exit to Bradford City from the Capital One Cup in the quarter-finals. They were edged out in the penalties at the Coral Windows Stadium on Tuesday.

Gunners made a sloppy start at Bradford City’s home ground. Thompson fired an early goal and took the initial lead for the home side.

Arsenal failed to recover from it until two minutes to stoppage time when Thomas Vermaelen equalised the scores with a header.

The match went to the stoppage time where arsenal went berserk in the second half. However, they squandered several chances and eventually dragged the match to penalties. The Gunners were underplayed in it and subsequently exited from the tournament with disappointment.

Arsenal’s tactician, Wenger, reflected in a post match press conference,

“It’s disappointing, but congratulations to Bradford. They defended well [and] started stronger than us. In the second half of extra-time it was all us but we couldn’t convert our chances. They defended very well.”

Wenger also praised Bradford’s brilliant defence and was disappointed that his side’s five strikers could not convert their chances. He commented further, “What is disappointing is [we played] basically over an hour with five strikers basically, and couldn’t score. We created a lot of different situations. You have to say they defended very well.”

Wenger is now emphasizing his team to focus on their upcoming Barclays English Premier League match.

“Where it leaves our season is to focus on the next game. Sport is about that. Win the next game [and] focus on the next game,” the Frenchman was quoted.

Bradford City are through to the semi-finals at the Capital One Cup.

Arsenal will face off Reading at the Madejski Stadium on 17th December.
