Arsenal’s boss, Arsene Wenger, admits that point difference between the top team of the English Premier League, Manchester United, is huge but believes that Gunners can still catch up.
The Frenchman insists that his side can catch-up with the Barclays English Premier League pace setter, Manchester United, after they recorded a 2-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates Stadium.
“The gap [to the top] is big, but not big enough to think it’s done,” Wenger stated in an interview to the Arsenal Player.
Mikel Arteta scored both goals on penalties, one in each half. Although first penalty was controversial but Arsenal managed to snap out from their losing streak and eventually gained all three points.
Manchester United outclassed they arch-rivals Manchester City this weekend. They took an early lead with Wayne Rooney’s brace in the opening half. The defending champions re-focused in the second half and eventually equalised the scores at 2-2. However, the ex-Gunner captain Robin Van Persie fired the winner in the 92nd minute and led his side to glory.
“The Manchester derby was of a very good level and the draw would maybe have been the fair result,” the Frenchman was quoted further. “Manchester City came back – they started the game very strongly – but Man United have shown they are clinical up front.”
Arsenal are currently standing at number seven in the Barclays English Premier League. Wenger believes that if they stay consistent they can definitely qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League place and even catch up with Manchester United.
He added, “The rest of the weekend was quite interesting. It shows that if you’re consistent, you will be there at the end of the season. From now on it is important for us to be consistent.”
