Robert Hurley and Katinka Hosszu dominate prelims – FINA Swimming Championships

Robert Hurley and Katinka Hosszu dominated the qualification rounds of the Men’s 100m backstroke and Women’s 200m butterfly respectively at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships.

With his commendable form, Hurley remained only a stroke ahead of his toughest challenger as he made his way towards the finishing wall for first position by producing a nice effort of 50.22 seconds.

Hurley was followed by Matthew Grevers, who was 0.33 seconds away from him and surfaced on the finishing blockade for second position by touching the wall with a wonderful timing of 50.55 seconds.

Grevers was chased by Stanislav Donets, who suffered a deficit of 0.28 seconds from his preceding swimmer and concluded his swim in a fascinating time of 50.83 seconds.

Donets was traced by Guilherme Guido, who stayed two arm-strokes slower and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by producing a time of 51.14 seconds.

Afterwards, Hosszu dominated the prelims of 200m butterfly. Hosszu stayed in a comfortable lead over her opponents as she sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for first position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds.

She was trailed by Liuyang Jiao, who stayed 0.69 seconds apart and occupied second position of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.88 seconds.

Third position of the race was gained by Kona Fujita, who remained half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in a time of 2 minutes and 05.42 seconds.

Fujita was followed by Kathleen Hersey, who was only 0.03 seconds slower from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.45 seconds.

Fifth spot of the race was secured by Katerina Savard, who was 0.09 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.54 seconds.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony of the tournament while the competition will conclude on December 16 after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
