Sheng Jie Yang outshines Sourabh Varma in Men’s Singles first round at India International Challenge

Chinese Taipei’s budding shuttler Shen Jie Yang put up staggering show of top class badminton as he stunned the higher ranked Sourabh Varma in Men’s Singles first round at Tata Open India International Challenge 2012 in India, on Thursday, December 13.

The impressive Sheng Jie, who entered into this tournament as an un-seeded shuttler, played with impressive speed and control in his shots and remained successful in crushing the top seeded Sourabh in a dictating manner.

Taipei shuttler was on a different level in the arena as he did not show any mercy to the local shuttler and wrapped up a comprehensive win in straight games with a wonderful margin in 40 minutes.

On the other hand, the higher ranked Sourabh was shocked with the staggering performance of his opponent as he failed to match the pace of rallies and lost the match without even getting close on the board.

Sheng Jie delivered remarkably well from the starting rallies of first set as he played with spectacular speed and took over the control of the game.

The impressive craft and tricky game plan assisted Sheng Jie to keeps his rival in all sorts of trouble on court.

Sheng Jie progressed with a superb speed in the starting half and remained in lead on score board until the interval.

The underdog Sourabh failed to play positive game after the one-minute break as he lost his focus in the arena.

Sheng Jie did not reduce the pace of the game at any stage and remarkable grabbed the first set with a reasonable 21-16 score on the board.

Sourabh was once again in problem in the second set as he faced a hostile treatment from his rival who was at his best in the arena.

Sheng Jie displayed his incredible skills on court by taking the bird early from all areas and kept his upper hand over his rival.

In the second half of second game, the lofty Sheng Jie continued his comfortable run and easily grabbed the set by a comprehensive difference of 21-15.

The Taipei shuttler made his presence strongly felt on Indian soil by defeating the local hero Sourabh in straight sets with a striking 21-16 and 21-15 score on the board.
