Wounded Swedish charity worker, shot in Lahore, passes away
Thursday, December 13th, 2012 4:19:37 by Web DeskA Swedish charity worker, who was critically wounded in a gun attack in Pakistan last week, has been passed away on Wednesday, Swedish TV reported.
It was last Monday that Bargeeta Almby ambushed and shot wounded in the chest when she was on her way home from work. As the world today has been previously posted on Monday, she flew home to Sweden to being treated in hospital in Stockholm.
But she succumbed to her wounds. His brother while speaking to the SVT confirmed her death.
Pastor Holger Strandgren commenting over her death said it feels empty, adding that she had meant so much to so many people’s lives and choices. She had been in two minds for years about how long she would stay in Pakistan and now she did not make that decision himself, he added.
She lived in Pakistan for 39 years, since 1973. She worked at a boarding school for orphaned girls in Lahore.
In August 2011, US development worker Warren Weinstein was kidnapped after gunmen tricked their way into his Lahore home. Pakistani officials believe he is being held by al Qaeda and Taliban extremists in Pakistan’s lawless northwest.
In April, a British Muslim Red Cross worker was beheaded nearly four months after being kidnapped in the southwestern city of Quetta.
