No plan to protest against Supreme Court’s decision: Altaf Hussain
Saturday, December 15th, 2012 12:20:40 by Web DeskMuttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said that he has no plan to protest demonstration against the Supreme Court’s judgment; rather he would prefer to submit his reply in the apex court while living within limits of the Constitutions.
In his telephonic address to party workers in Lal Qila Ground in Karachi, he responded to the contempt of court notice issued by the Supreme Court to him. He the party’s response in this regard would be in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
He appealed the party workers not to lodge a protest against the apex court’s directives on the issue. He repeated that he has great honour for national institutions; that is why he has decided to submit his reply in the court.
The MQM chief and the deputy convener of the party’s Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, who is also an MNA, have been summoned for Jan 7 for criticizing the court’s directives regarding delimitation of constituencies of Karachi.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, during the hearing today, said he had read the text of a speech by Hussain and found it to be offensive and threatening. He said the language used in the speech was tantamount to an attempt to obstruct justice.
During his speech, the MQM chief said he and his party would file a response in the apex court after consulting legal and constitutional experts. He made it clear that people had observed the end of those who used to level fake and fabricated allegations in the name of politics for their vested interests.
In the meantime, he commented on the murder investigation of Dr Imran Farooq by the Scotland Yard police, saying the party would extend all cooperation to help expedite the probe. He said the probing agency had informed them before visiting the MQM office in Edgware.
Moreover, the MQM chief demanded the Supreme Court to take notice of the Ali Garh and Pakka Qila tragedies. “We are ready to hand over evidence to the court in this regard also,” he added.
Efforts were being made to remove the MQM from the country’s political scene for the past 35 years, he said. “People have witnessed what happened to those who hurled allegations at Altaf Hussain and his party…and the world will witness it in the future also,” he added.
