Matthew Grevers and Olivia Smoliga win gold medals – FINA Swimming Championships

Matthew Grevers and Olivia Smoliga won gold medal of the 100m backstroke in Men and Women’s corner respectively at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships.

Grevers remained slightly ahead of his rivals and tapped the wall for gold medal with a wonderful effort of 49.89 seconds.

He was trailed by Stanislav Donets, who failed to maintain his fastest qualification spot of the race and secured silver medal of the race with a nice timing of 49.91 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Guilherme Guido, who stayed 0.59 seconds behind and secured bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a fantastic time of 50.50 seconds.

Guido was followed by Ashley Delaney, who remained 0.11 seconds slower and concluded his race in fourth place by touching the wall with the timing of 50.61 seconds.

Similarly, Delaney was chased by Robert Hurley, who was remained 0.02 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 50.63 seconds for fifth position.

Afterwards, Smoliga dominated the playoff of same event in Women’s corner. She remained half a body length faster from her closest swimmer as she tapped the wall with the timing of 56.64 seconds.

The gold medalist was followed by Mie Oestergaard Nielsen, who remained 0.43 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 57.07 seconds.

The second position holder was trailed by Simona Baumrtova, who was 0.11 seconds behind and completed her race in third place by touching the wall with the timing of 57.18 seconds.

Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Rachel Goh, who was 0.13 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 57.31 seconds.

Subsequently, Goh was traced by Georgia Davies, who remained 0.01 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for fifth place by reporting an effort of 57.32 seconds.

Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament while the championship will conclude after the completion of all swimming events.
