Ye Shiwen and Nicholas Santos occupy gold medals – FINA Swimming Championships

Ye Shiwen and Nicholas Santos occupied gold medals of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) and Men’s 50m butterfly respectively at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships in Turkey.

Shiwen faced tough competition from her closest swimmer in the eight-lap discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for the crown with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.64 seconds.

Her gold finish remained 0.08 seconds faster from Katinka Hosszu, who ended her race in second place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 04.72 seconds.

The second position holder was traced by Hannah Miley, who stayed two and a half body length behind and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 07.12 seconds.

Miley was chased by Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who remained 0.24 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 07.36 seconds for fourth place.

Jakabos stayed 0.41 seconds ahead of Madeline Dirado, who emerged on the finishing end for fifth position by concluding her race in a time of 2 minutes and 07.77 seconds.

Afterwards, Santos occupied gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly. He gained a marginal lead over his toughest challenger and managed to outsmart him over the finishing end for the title by submitting a time of 22.22 seconds.

The champion was trailed by Chad le Clos, who remained only 0.04 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and made his way to the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting an effort of 22.26 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Thomas Shields, who remained 0.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall for bronze medal with the timing of 22.46 seconds.

Shields was chased by Frederick Bousquet, who stayed 0.15 seconds apart and settled on the wall for fourth position with the timing of 22.61 seconds.

Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Peng Wu, who remained only an inch apart and made his way to the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 22.78 seconds.

Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable effort at the victory ceremony of the event.
