President Zardari signs Federal Compulsory Education Bill
Thursday, December 20th, 2012 12:31:42 by Web DeskFinally, President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday signed into law ‘The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Bill 2012’ to ensure provision of free-of-cost education to children of age 5-16 years.
Speaking on the occasion‚ he hoped it would go a long way in ensuring free and compulsory education to the children of the country. He said that pursuing Benazir Bhutto’s vision of free and compulsory education the government has fulfilled yet another promise made to the people.
He said that the law would ensure that that no child remains out of school hence realizing country’s international commitments.
He said under the law‚ private schools will also be required to provide free education to the disadvantaged students to the extent of ten percent of the class.
The president said that present government would continue to work for promotion of education as it holds key to socio-economic development and fighting the militant mindset. He also urged the provincial governments to step forward for similar legislation.
He also paid rich tributes to the vision of Benazir Bhutto for showing the path of reconciliation as a way forward for political stability of the country.
He said that the Government preferred consensus decisions in order to take on-board all the stakeholders on the issue of national interest. He called upon all the political forces to join hands and pursue on point national agenda for the greater good of the country and the people.
