Five young Gunners extend their contracts – EPL News
Five young stars have signed long-term contracts with the Arsenal FC on 19th December.
Kieran Gibbs (23-year-old), Carl Jenkinson (20-year-old), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlane (19-year-old), Aaron Ramsey (21-year-old) and Jack Wilshere (20-year-old) have all extended their contracts with the Gunners. The Quintent represent British countries with midfielder Aaron Ramsey being the captain of Wales. He made 24 appearances for his country. The remaining four youngsters are full England internationals with Jenkinson being the most recent to claim his first cap against Sweden on November.
The Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, was quoted in an interview: “We are delighted that these five young players have all signed new long-term contracts.”
Wenger, who is serving Gunners for 16 years, praised all five youngsters. He commented that Wilshere is the best among them but other youngsters have tremendous talent as well.
The Gunners’ tactician stated about the youngsters, “Jack is certainly the best known, the leader of this group – but the other four players are exceptional footballers, and we’re very happy that we could conclude their new deals at the same time.”
The Frenchman further emphasized on British youngsters’ importance to the Arsenal squad. He also believes that this is step towards future stability of the club and revealed that all five of them have signed for long-term with Arsenal.
Wenger commented further, “Gibbs, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey and Wilshere represent a core of the squad and it’s an extension for a long period for all of them. I’m a strong believer in stability and I believe when you have a core of British players, it’s always easier to keep them together and that’s what we’ll try to achieve going forward.”
Arsenal are currently standing at number five at the Barclays English Premier League. They will next face Wigan on 22nd December at the DW Stadium.
