Opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will strongly oppose the tax amnesty bill and accountability bill in the assembly.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad, Nisar said that the PML-N would not accept those bills and if they would be approved by the parliament, PML-N would terminate them after coming into power.

Responding on the fair trial bill passed in the assembly on Thursday, Nisar said that it was wrong perception created by media that the bill was approved with consensus. “Fair trial bill was approved by the majority, not with the consensus of the assembly,” he added.

He also said that the party had some reservations on the bill as some of its amendments violate the human rights of the people.

The PML-N leader also lashed out at President Zardari’s decision to appoint new governor in Punjab and said that the change would not affect PML-N and the next elections would be won by the parties on the basis of their performances.

“All these governors were appointed on the basis of their political affiliations and their relatives will also be contesting the upcoming polls,” Chaudhry Nisar said. He recalled that according to the 18th amendment, no person whose relatives would be contesting next polls could remain in the government.

The opposition leader maintained that the PML-N on assuming power would do away with the government-sponsored Accountability Bill and Tax Amnesty if the government managed to get those passed. “The government wants to get those bills passed which will be blots in the face of democracy,” he said.

Chaudhry Nisar was of the view that the Fair Trial Bill was passed by the National Assembly on the basis of majority, not unanimously, saying the PML-N moved a number amendments and still had many reservations on the legislation.

“We will review this bill whenever we get the opportunity,” he said adding the PML-N knew that the legislation was required but they would not compromise on basic rights of the masses.
