Pace attack is Pakistan’s advantage over India, says Sohail Tanvir
Monday, December 24th, 2012 3:05:56 by Rana Nasir GhafoorPakistan’s left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir believes his side enjoys a clear advantage over India in the fast bowling department, saying that the Men in Blue don’t have a permanent pace attack.
The Green Shirts have reached India for two Twenty20 Internationals plus three ODIs. The first T20 game will be played on December 25th. The arch-rivals are meeting in a bilateral series for the first time in five years, and the pundits are reluctant
to declare a clear favourite.
Tanvir, on the other hand, is confidence about his team’s chance, adding that Pakistan hold the edge over the hosts. He said ahead of the series:
"Pakistan has an edge over India in fast bowling as India lack good quality fast bowlers. Indian pacers are busy cementing their place in the team and they lack in confidence. India does not have permanent pace attack and we will try to take advantage of
that."
He described that cricket between the traditional rivals is about passion. He forecasted an exciting battle between the two big cricketing giants, and stated that both side are well-balanced.
Despite admitting the fact that with the likes of Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s spin attack will be very important, he stated that the pacers should not be ignored. He rued the fact that performance of the pacers usually goes
unnoticed because of the spinners.
"Hopefully we will get to see exciting contest on the field. However, I am not talking about the result because both teams are good and balanced," said Tanvir just before the opening encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
"With the arrival of Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez in Pakistan team and playing together in matches after matches, the performances of fast bowlers goes unnoticed," he argued.
"I have played in India and performed really well. I cherish 2007 series in India where I bowled well and got many wickets in Tests and ODIs. My performance also was good in the IPL. I get inspired by these performances which helps me in giving my best,"
he uttered.
