Thai boss set for stay despite Suzuki Cup loss
Thursday, December 27th, 2012 2:07:27 by Shahrukh SohailWinfried Schafer is set to stay with Thailand despite his failure to secure silverware in the AFF Suzuki Cup only a few days ago.
“We have the opening two Asian Cup qualifiers coming up on February 6 at home to Kuwait and March 22 in Lebanon. I can confirm he (Schafer) will take charge of the team for those two games,” said a Thai official while speaking to the media.
“We’ll have a board meeting early next year to assess the team’s performance. But that doesn’t mean Schafer will get the sack.
“He has already planned for our Asian Cup qualifying campaign, so he will definitely stay until his contract expires in mid-2014,” Worawi added.
Thailand have drastically improved their footballing setup in the last few years and their talented teams are starting to make an impact in the AFC Champions League.
Although the National Team is still far from securing a FIFA World Cup berth, their improvement means that may become a reality in the next few years.
