Attack Indian part-time bowlers, Mushtaq Ahmad’s advice to Pakistan
Friday, December 28th, 2012 4:13:14 by Rana Nasir GhafoorFormer leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, who is working as England’s spin bowling coach at the moment, has advised Pakistan batsmen to target Indian part-time bowlers in the ongoing limited-over series, saying that India’s poor run in the recent time was caused
by lack of bowling resources.
"India has problems with their bowling and they are short of quality bowlers at this level for all formats. I think after winning the first T20 match Pakistan will now be very confident and they should target the Indian bowlers throughout the series," Mushtaq
told ‘Geo Super’ channel.
Pakistan started off the series on a winning note, beating the home side by five wickets in the opening Twenty20 international. Batting first at Bangalore, the Indians could only score 133 runs in 20 overs, as the middle-order failed to capitalise on a good
start, provided by Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir.
In reply, the Men in Green comfortably achieved the target, courtesy to the brilliant work by Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. Both right-handers scored half-centuries.
Mushtaq described that Team India is relying heavily on part-timer bowlers and this why they have faced embarrassment lately. Therefore, he insisted that the Cornered Tigers must attack them.
"In the shorter format India is having problems because of dependence on part-time bowlers or allrounders. Pakistan must target these bowlers. They played Yuvraj Singh very well in Bangalore like England did in the second T20 match. Yuvraj is not as dangerous
when you play him on the back foot," he added.
The Men in Blue were recently trounced by England in the Test series. The home side won the opening game, but lost rhythm afterwards. By winning the second and third game, the Poms took lead in the series, which the fourth and final game ended in draw.
On England’s wonderful 2-1 win, he shared, "Credit goes to the English players. None of them showed any ego problems and listened to any advice I gave to them. More importantly they kept their nerves throughout the tour. In India, it is all about how well
you handle your nerves under pressure."
