Information Minister Kaira urges media to play optimistic role against terrorism
Monday, December 31st, 2012 4:20:54 by Web DeskInformation Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday urged the media to play a positive role in the war against terrorism‚ by not showing the live footage of such personalities‚ who favour extremists.
Addressing the Centenary celebrations of Pakistan Engineering Council, he said the media, while using its right to the freedom of expression, should keep the national interest supreme in its coverage of news. He, however, applauded the role of private sector in promotion of education in the country.
In his view, the overwhelming majority of people in Pakistan were pro-democracy and they had been struggling for this cause for a long time. He stressed on the need to focus on education and health sectors. He said PPP has always paid attention on addressing the basic issues of masses whenever it came into power.
Commenting on shortage energy resources, he said that from a long period of time‚ no mega dam has been built in the country. He said that due to efforts of PPP led government in last three years‚ now land acquisition process is being finalized for the construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam‚ while work is also being done on eight small and medium dam projects‚ launched by the former government.
Kaira stated that we are working for provision of education and health facilities to public‚ as well as the security to them.
He said that due to successful policies‚ Pakistan has now become food sufficient country‚ whereas we had to import wheat after coming into power. He said that PPP led government has dealt the devastating floods amicably and provided relief to people.
