KESC out of title race following PIA draw
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 4:39:26 by Shahrukh SohailThe Karachi outfit are out of contention for the Pakistan Premier League following a 2-2 sharing of the points with Pakistan International Airlines.
Although KESC were leading the game, PIA rallied and fought their way to back to score twice, something which has ended the team’s hopes of winning the trophy according to manager Hassan Baloch.
“Yes, we are now out of the title contention, but we will try to fight for the second spot. For the second spot, too, we will have to work hard as we are to play tougher sides. It’s really disappointing for us as the team was playing extremely well and we had scored two early goals,” Hasan was quoted as saying while talking to the media.
“We squandered too many chances and especially Rasool missed a sitter and the miserable run was compounded by Abdul Salam who missed a couple of open net chances,” he added.
PIA boss Shamim Khan said that while his troops struggled initially, it was because mostly 2nd stringers were given a chance and after the break he introduced proven stars who helped turn around the score.
“We had fielded a weak team in the first half as we wanted to give chance to youngsters. But after the breather, we sent in Nasrullah and then Shakir Lashari who helped the team bring the parity,” said Shamim.
