The Gunners showed dismal performance at the St. Mary’s Stadium. However, they were lucky to bag a point against Southampton with Guly Do Prado’s own goal.
Arsenal showed poor performance at Southampton’s home ground. In 34th minute, the home side took a 1-0 lead with Ramirez netting the ball after capitalising on the terrible defending from Gunners. Bacry Sagna produced a mis-kick before Ramirez could sweep up with a spectacular finish past Szczesny.
However, after seven minutes, Guly turned the ball towards his own net from Theo Walcott’s free kick. The scores stayed the same after that and eventually fell at six in the Barclays English Premier League Standings.
Arsenal’s boss, Arsene Wenger admitted that his side displayed poor performance. He stated in an interview to the Arsenal Player,
“It was a flat performance, overall. We were disappointing going forward, we didn’t create enough, when you sum up the chances we created tonight it is very little. Our game was not speedy enough with not enough purpose. Therefore at the end of the day you can even consider that it’s a lucky point.”
The Gunners recorded a spectacular 7-3 victory against Newcastle in their last Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium. They entered the field in his spirits and were hoping to carry their momentum. However, Arsenal lost their concentration and failed to score a single goal.
Wenger commented further, “Maybe we were a bit off and lost a bit of concentration and thought ‘OK, we scored seven against Newcastle, we’ll score again today’, but it doesn’t work like that. You have to focus completely.”
Arsenal will next face the defending champions, Manchester City, at the Emirates Stadium this weekend. Manchester City are currently standing in second place at the Barclays English Premier League rankings.
