Shahzeb Khan murder case: CJ orders authorities to arrest killers by evening or lose jobs
Friday, January 4th, 2013 12:35:38 by Web DeskExpressing annoyance over the non appearance of top police officials, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has warned concerned authorities to arrest Shahzeb Khan’s murderers by evening, or risk losing their jobs.
A three-member bench of the apex court started hearing of the suo motu case in which 20-year-old Shahzeb was killed over a small argument allegedly by feudals. The chief justice was irked by the non appearance of IG Sindh, summoning him within next few hours.
In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar stated that if a poor man’s child was killed, the police came under pressure from the influential. He added that authorities should have confiscated the properties and cancelled the passports of the accused but none of that had been done.
The chief justice said those who facilitated the suspects’ escape should be taken into custody. Referring to a previous case, the chief justice said, “The IG Sindh was saved in the last case but tell him that in this case, he will not be pardoned. He should have appeared in person.”
Speaking to the investigation officer, he said: “You have already spoiled a case before and are about to do it again.”
It is vital to mention here that the court had summoned the advocate general Sindh as well as IG Police Sindh, Fiyyaz Leghari. The latter, however, did not appear in court and was then given a 12pm deadline for appearing before the bench.
Justice Chaudhry said that all delays in progress of the case were attempts at pushing the case to the sidelines.
Khan was gunned down on Dec 25, 2012 within the remit of the Darakhshan police station and the Chief Justice of Pakistan has taken suo motu notice in this case.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had taken notice of the murder in Karachi and had issued notices to the Sindh advocate general and the provincial police chief and summoned a report on the case today.
