India’s visit to Pakistan: BCCI rejects PCB’s offer
Monday, January 7th, 2013 2:30:19 by Web DeskThe Board of Control for Cricket in (BCCI) has dismissed Pakistan’s proposal about India’s visit to the neighboring country, Indian media reported on Monday.
According to an Indian newspaper, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf was hopeful of holding Ashes like series between India and Pakistan. However, his Indian counterpart has refused to accept the proposal.
The newspaper said that the BCCI had already informed the PCB that it was not in favour of their team visit to Islamabad amid precarious security situation. The Indians have also rejected PCB proposal of holding Pakistan home series in India. The paper added that the BCCI had also rejected to play at a neutral venue.
It is learnt that during his meeting with BCCI president N Srinivasan in Chennai, Ashraf had insisted that India should visit Pakistan. The Indian side was baffled at the proposal as even Bangladesh recently declined to tour the country.
“He seemed to have a one point agenda that we should visit Pakistan. But what is the ground situation there? The ICC is refusing to depute its umpires. How can we visit the country in such circumstances? Let them host Australia first and then we’ll think about touring the country,” the report said. As for the proposal of a neutral venue, the official rubbished the idea.
It added, “We’ll simply follow the FTP (Future Tours Programme) and there is no way we’ll play at a neutral venue.” The BCCI is also miffed that the PCB tries to politicize bilateral cricket by having the matter raised at political and diplomatic levels.
