The Pakistan cricket team was given a warm welcome when they returned home after a successful tour from India. They managed to level the T-20 series 1-1, but ended up being victorious in the 50-over format by 2-1.
This delighted the fans back home in the country and they gathered in huge numbers to greet their heroes at the Lahore International Airport. The players were also thankful to the crowd and aimed to continuously do well in the future events.
Both Pakistan and India had not been involved in a bilateral series for a long time, but things finally got better once the political ties between the countries got stronger.
Although there was no room for a Test series, yet both nations decided to battle it out in the one-day format. The series ended up to be a success, as fans all over the world were glued to their television sets for a thrilling contest.
The Men in Green certainly ended up being in a better position, as beating India on home soil has never been an easy task for any team.
Therefore, both the ODI and T20 skippers Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez were delighted when they were greeted by millions of fans.
According to Misbah, “The significant part of the series was the young lot stood up to take the team’s veins. Throughout the series, the young and new players contributed in the victories. I will give credit to the whole team but there were few youngsters
like [Mohammad] Irfan, Junaid [Khan] and Nasir Jamshed – who have really impressed. They have proved themselves against world’s best batting line-up and have outclassed them. They have a bright future and if they continue to perform like this, they will go
way forward.”
On the other hand, Hafeez was also proud of his team’s effort. He said that the team played well in all departments of the game and proved what they are capable of achieving.
“It was series we have been waiting desperately," Hafeez said. "The team played with full focus and proved how good we are. It’s the victory of the whole nation and the highlight of the series were the trio – Irfan, Junaid and Nasir.”
