Dav Whatmore has brought positive change in team, says Misbah-ul-Haq
Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 2:37:46 by Rana Nasir GhafoorPakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has admired Dav Whatmore’s efforts, and said that the coach has brought a positive change in the side. The former Australian Test cricketer will complete his first year with the Green Shirts in March, and many critics have
already started questioning his role.
Misbah, on the other hand, has an entirely different take on this. He credited the coach, saying that a positive change in the attitude of the player came because of Whatmore’s great efforts. He said in an interview after returning home following a winning
tour to India:
"I think Dav (Whatmore) has done well with us and he has brought about a change in our attitude. The most positive thing about him is that he always backs the captain and players."
"A coach must be judged by his work professionally as the onus is on him to improve the team’s performance, get results and groom players. It really doesn’t matter which country he belongs too as long as the team benefits from him," he added.
The Men in Green have been doing well since Whatmore joined the setup. The Cornered Tigers did well to beat the Aussies in the T20 series in UAE last year.
On the fresh tour to India, the side performed magnificently, and won the ODI series 2-1. The victory came after the 2-match Test series, which ended in draw. The team’s next big task is to do well in tough South African conditions, as they are due to tour
for 3 Tests, 2 Twenty20, and 5 ODIs.
Talking about the recent India tour, Misbah described that it was a great learning experience for the whole crew, particularly the youngsters. The young players like Junaid Khan, Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Irfan did goods against Team Blue.
"Playing in India is all about handling the pressure and I think we did very well as a unit with the support staff also working well with the players. I thought Whatmore did well although it is the first time he was involved in a bilateral Indo-Pak series,"
he explained.
