X-Men: First Class is a Sci-Fi action flick which is produced by Bryan Singer and directed by Mathew Vaughn. It was released on 3rd June, 2011 worldwide and not only rocked the box office but received good reviews. DVD of this move was out on 9th September later that year.
Bryan Singer, the man who resurrected Superman and brought X-Men to life, made this film as a prequel for the X-Men trilogy. It is set in 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier (starred by James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr aka Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender). It also lime lights the origin of their groups, X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants.
Before they were arch nemeses, Xavier and Magneto were best buddies. They were working together with other Mutants to stop the greatest threat the world ever known. In the process, differ in opinions on how to cope with humans led an eternal war began between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men. Xavier wanted peace and befriends with humans but Magneto wanted to be superior among human race and to control them.
X-Men: First Class did awesome business on its opening weekend and also debuted as number one at the American and Canadian box office. It earned an approximate of $55.1 million on its opening weekend. However, it was much lower than earnings from the opening weekends of the previous x-men movies.
Besides topping the Box Office, the two hours and 12-minute flick received positive reviews from several critics. The movie received 87 per cent of positive reviews with a survey from review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, showing an average rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 241 reviews.
The site’s general consensus states, “With a strong script, stylish direction, and powerful performances from its well-rounded cast, X-Men: First Class is a welcome return to form for the franchise.”
Eric D. Snider of the Film.com gave it an A- rating. He praised the movie further by stating, “It uses the themes of the previous movies to build an intelligent, fast-paced, and highly entertaining prequel.”
Examiner.com top film critic, Jeff Beck gave the flick 3.5 out of four and commented, “This new entry to the “X-Men” saga will please fans and non-fans of the comic book heroes alike, shaking things up by giving us a little something new from the franchise.”
Overall, it is a fantastic movie which whole family can enjoy.
