APHC urges resolution to prevent border tension between Pakistan and India
Thursday, January 10th, 2013 12:32:04 by Web DeskAll Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) leadership has called for a resolution of the Kashmir issue to prevent escalation of border tension between Pakistan and India. The pro-India leaders have also urged restraint.
The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani in an interview said unless the line drawn between parts of Kashmir is wiped out‚ hostilities between India and Pakistan would continue.
He noted, “Unless the Kashmir dispute is addressed in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris such unwanted incidents will continue to occur and result in human losses. At a time when world is treading the path of development and prosperity at a fast speed‚ both countries are in a state of war because of Kashmir.”
Senior APHC leader‚ Professor Abdul Ghani Butt said‚ “we seek to promote a congenial political climate so that Kashmir issue is resolved. We seek flutter of hearts with happiness and not roar of gun along the Line of Control.”
Pro-India opposition party in the so-called Kashmir Assembly‚ Peoples Democratic Party‚ urged the need for restraint while underling that truce at LoC was fundamental to any progress on resolution of Kashmir issue.
“It is unfortunate. It should not have happened. We condemn this use of force and we call for restraint because ultimately it’s the people of Jammu and Kashmir who are worst affected by Pak-India hostilities‚” PDP Spokesman‚ Naeem Akhtar said.
Ruling National Conference also condemned the incident and termed it “unacceptable” in a civilized society. “We strongly condemn this act as it is unacceptable in a civilized society. But at the same time there is a need for restraint because if there is problem at LoC‚ the dialogue process between the two countries might get derailed‚” NC Spokesman‚ Tanvir Sadiq said.
On January 8, India claimed that firing across the LoC by Pakistani soldiers had killed two of its troops, with the spokesman for the Indian Army’s Northern Control stating this was a violation of the ceasefire agreed on by the two sides.
Pakistan has denied being involved in any incident of unprovoked firing, but cites an incident on January 6, when it says Indian troops attacked a base and killed one of its soldiers. In turn, India denies this and says its positions had been bombarded for five hours by Pakistan.
