Back to back blasts kill over 50 people in Quetta
Thursday, January 10th, 2013 11:05:50 by Web DeskOver fifty people including a cameraman of a private TV channel, several policemen and two Edhi volunteers were killed while 108 others were injured in a twin blasts that took place one after the other along Alamdar Road in Quetta.
According to media reports, one after the other repeated blasts occurred on Alamdar Raod in Quetta, leaving around fifty dead and dozens injured including media men and rescue workers.
First blast was reported from Rehmattullah Chowk on Alamdar Road, whereas the second one which struck Airport road area nearby came minutes after the first one.
The second bomb went off by the time media, rescue, and law enforcement officials reached the spot, added reports. Police officers, media men, and rescue workers are also among the dozens of injured. Cameraman of SAMAA TV Imran Sheikh also died in the blast.
Police officers, mediamen, and rescue workers were also among the 80 injured, said security sources. On the other hand DIG Hamid Shakil says the number of injured is as high as 163.
SP Quaidabad Khalid Masood and DSP Mujahid Hussain, who were injured in the second blast succumbed to his wounds later in the hospital.
The private TV cameraman who was killed on the spot was identified as Imran Shaikh. The satellite engineer of the same news channel was also wounded in the blast.
It is noted that there are two Imambargahs on Alamdar road and Hazara community makes up most of the population of this area.
The blasts caused suspension of electricity supply after they might have damaged the electricity pylons.
The above two blasts bring today’s number of explosions hitting the terror-stricken city to three. At least twelve people including two children and a FC personal were killed while 40 others sustained injuries when a powerful bomb ripped through Bacha Khan Chowk earlier in the day.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has taken notice of blats and killings in Quetta. He has expressed sorrow over people’s deaths. He has instructed the concerned authorities to provide best available medical assistance to the blast victims.
