Pakistan attack: Blast in Quetta kills 11 people
Thursday, January 10th, 2013 4:30:37 by Web DeskAt least eleven people, including two security personnel, were reported killed and 35 others injured in a blast that took place near Quetta’s Bacha Khan chowk on Thursday, says media reports.
According to initial reports, the target of the attack was an FC checkpost. Several vehicles including a vehicle of law enforcement agency and food stalls were badly damaged in the explosion.
The injured included at least four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and the explosion damaged shops and buildings in the area.
CCPO Quetta Mir Zubair Mehmood confirmed 11 deaths, saying that some 35 people include law enforcers, women and children sustained injuries in the blast.
The area where the blast occurred houses a shopping plaza and a market and is generally a busy area. While the intensity of the blast is yet unknown, it was heard a long way off. The explosive material reportedly was reportedly placed in a vehicle.
Bomb disposal squad is collecting the evidences from the site of the incident which would help to ascertain nature of the blast. The squad said that 20 kg of explosive material was used in the bomb explosion.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Thursday’s explosion but Quetta and Balochistan are frequently hit by bomb attacks.
