Long March: Twin cities facing severe petrol shortage
Friday, January 11th, 2013 12:39:24 by Web DeskIn what appeared to be another shock to citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, petrol almost became a rare commodity in the twin cities.
The shortage was created after rumors that the government had planned to close sale of petrol before Tahirul Qadri’s proposed million-men-march on Islamabad on January 14.
Some of the petrol pumps, which have petrol stocks, again witnessed long queues of vehicles, and people holding empty bottles and cans. Besides, motorcyclists were seen clustering around the dispensers.
Dr Asim Hussain, the adviser to the prime minister on petroleum, reportedly said such a decision was not in his knowledge. He added that political decisions were never executed through technical departments like the petroleum ministry.
However, no single petrol pump is selling fuel to vehicles in the capital. Azam Khan, a motorist, told NewsPakistan he wanted to fill the tank of his car after hearing the news about the closure of the stations.
He noted, “My parents are sick and in case of an emergency I take them to hospital. But if I have no petrol in my car, how can I meet the emergency?”
An interesting situation developed at a petrol pump in I-8, Islamabad when the motorists in the queues were told that the station had run out of fuel.
