New York Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes has avoided arbitration and signed a fresh one year deal. He made approximately $3.2 million last year while his new deal and its other terms and conditions are still to be public.
Hughes is considered one of the top ranked players among the Yankees entire starter rotation. He showed good commitment in the last Major League Baseball season and achieved consistent numbers.
He finished the season on a high note as he went at 4.23 ERA along with 16-13 win-loss, 165 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP. Not only in the past Major League outing, but Hughes has been playing quite consistently since his arrival in the biggest baseball league in the world.
He currently carries career consistent numbers of 4.39 ERA along with 52-36 win loss, 535 strikeouts and 1.29 WHIP. His new deal with the Yankees is certainly a good sign.
Many still believe that Yankees possess potential at the mound with good starters. Along with good and consistent starters, the South New York baseball franchise also has good relief pitchers in the bullpen.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have also recently signed Ichiro Suzuki for more consistent results in the near future. That is also a very good sign as Yankees will be stronger on offensive areas.
“Signing with the Yankees has given me a new sense of determination, This is a unique team. A team that can have a player like Alex Rodriguez as a pinch hitter is special, and to be part of that is exciting,” the 39-year-old outfielder said Tuesday after a workout in Kobe.
“There is no reason for me to explain that here,” Suzuki said, adding that he intends to watch the tournament.
Right fielder Suzuki is a talented player and knows his game well. He did well in the last season and batted with a hitting average of .283 along with nine home runs, 55 RBIs and .307 OBP. His past record in MLB is also impressive as he hit at career .322 along with 104 home runs, 660 RBIs and .365 OBP.
