Jan O Jorgensen sends Daren Liew packing in quarter-final round of 2013 Malaysia Open

Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen stretched his winning streak in the Maybank Malaysia Open and qualified for the semi-final round after beating Daren Liew on Friday, January 18, 2013.

This encounter was staged at the local badminton complex of Kuala Lumpur and both contenders remained head-to-head for 62 minutes.

This match proved real test of their mental and physical fitness as it prolonged for three gruelling sets before ending with 19-21, 21-13 and 21-17 margin.

Initially, the Malaysian campaigner took off in perfect manner and bagged the opening match point but then Jorgensen showed his class and ruled the court in ending two games.

World Number 15 Danish player started his campaign with a cautious approach and this led him to a woeful defeat.

The native shuttler Daren Liew relished full benefits of his rival’s blunders and wrapped this segment of the showdown with 21-19 score.

However, it proved his last success in the home event as Jorgensen came back with a strong reply and counterbalanced the situation.

This time he changed his tactics and launched a brisk attack to establish an early lead. He prevailed in couple of establishing rallies and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.

After the one-minute break, he picked up some speed and left his challenger far behind with 21-13 margin on the board.

This development made the decider a survival of the fittest war as both shuttlers were striving for the final match point.

They made every effort to oust the opponent in first half but neither of them could hit the mark. The Malaysian shuttler made some fatal mistakes which allowed Jorgensen to lock the honour with an impressive result of 21-17.

Now the Danish player is expected to take on Lee Chong Wei in the semi-final round of Malaysia Open.
