Lee Chong Wei overpowers Jan O Jorgensen in semi-finals – Malaysia Open Update

Men’s Singles ace shuttler Lee Chong Wei served notice of his dominance in semi-final round of Maybank Malaysia Open and secured a title match berth on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

He locked horns with a spirited Danish player Jan O Jorgensen and both contenders remained head-to-head for three gruelling sets in Kuala Lumpur.

Though, World Number one Chong Wei managed to unseat Jorgensen but it was not an easy win as he had to sweat hard to read a favourable result of 21-13, 17-21 and 21-12.

The lower ranked but talented Jorgensen displayed great fighting spirit and walked tall despite of losing this crucial match.

In the first set, he took off in perfect manner and remained equal on points table until half time but then Chong Wei showed his class and tipped the scale in his favour.

The Malaysian maestro played with an authoritative approach and did not give his challenger even a single chance to come back.

He raised his chances of success by putting a mountainous total of 15-7 and then swept the table with a notable difference of eight points in 21-13 margin.

However, Jorgensen managed to save the honour to some extent and bagged second match pint with distinction.

This time the Danish campaigner played with right attitude and fortitude to gain an early advantage. He prevailed in couple of establishing rallies and capitalised this flow to place a convincing score of 11 before interval.

After the mid-game break, he maintained that rhythm and left the native player far behind with a significant figure of 21-17.

The third set became crucial as both shuttlers were looking to earn a spot in the final round of this prestigious tournament.

At this stage, the home ground and crowd helped Chong Wei and he sealed a splendid victory with an overwhelming score of 21-12.

Now he will be up against Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the title match of Malaysia Open.
