His gruelling effort remained only a touch ahead of his closest competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.97 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Alexander Graham, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 48.99 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Mack Horton, who remained 1.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and secured bronze medal of the race by posting an effort of 1 minute and 50.19 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Toru Maruyama, who stayed 0.51 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 50.70 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Luiz Lopes Melo, who remained only 0.03 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 50.73 seconds.
On the other hand, Groves snared the title of 200m butterfly. She stayed marginally ahead of her closest swimmer and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.20 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rino Hosoda, who remained 0.37 seconds slower from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 11.57 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Alanna Bowled, who stayed 1.09 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing wall for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 12.66 seconds.
Fourth fastest of the event was secured by Emily Overholt, who was half a body length behind and appeared on the finishing end by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.01 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the event.
