Walcott relieved the transfer saga is over
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 10:54:55 by Rizwan KazmiThe England international struggled to focus on football during the transfer negotiations with the Premier League club.
Arsenal FC star striker Theo Walcott insisted that he could not concentrate on the pitch while his future was being discussed with the English outfit. He recently penned a new long-term deal on Friday, which ended the speculation that he could leave the club in the January transfer window.
He extended his current contract for another three-and-a-half years and his salary is thought to be £100,000 a week now. The winger has seen former stars such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie depart the side after negotiations broke down.
However, the youngster is happy to commit to the Emirates Stadium outfit. He revealed that three matches before the clash against Chelsea FC the deal was almost confirmed, but still there were a few hindrances.
“For the last three games before Chelsea the contract was sort of done, but it was on my mind and had been for a long time because it was so close,” the England forward, who scored in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge, told the club’s official website.
“It is difficult to play and block out that side of it, but I tried to do the best I could and hopefully everyone was happy with what I did,” he added.
“I always wanted to stay and I am happy that myself and the club have come to an agreement,” he mused.
“There has been so much speculation and I am very pleased my future is sorted. It is all about the present now,” he finally concluded.
Walcott scored his side’s only goal in the Chelsea game as Arsenal lost 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. He said that he wanted to extend his stay with the Gunners. Arsenal’s next league game will be against West Ham on Wednesday.
