Naturalist terms Humans as a Plague for Planet Earth
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 12:39:37 by Syed Hassan BokhariLooking at how rapidly the climate of the world has been changing these past couple of years and even more when looking at records that go back 20, 50 or even a 100. While not all may agree, but an 86-year-old naturalist David Attenborough certainly things that humans are a “plague on the Earth” according to the Irish Examiner.
With the population growing at unprecedented rates and expected to be close to 9 billion by halfway through the century, the veteran TV broadcaster is seriously advocating the need for drastic reforms if we are to continue living a comfortable lifestyle and keep Mother Earth on board.
“It’s coming home to roost over the next 50 years or so. It’s not just climate change. It’s sheer space, places to grow food for this enormous horde,” he told the Radio Times.
“Either we limit our population growth or the natural world will do it for us, and the natural world is doing it for us right now.”
“We keep putting on programmes about famine in Ethiopia — that’s what’s happening. Too many people there. They can’t support themselves — and it’s not an inhuman thing to say. It’s the case.”
“Until humanity manages to sort itself out and get a co-ordinated view about the planet, it’s going to get worse and worse.”
