Supreme Court expresses anger over non-arrest of Ex OGRA chief
Thursday, January 24th, 2013 12:49:36 by Web DeskThe Supreme Court of Pakistan has expressed anger over the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for not arresting Tauqir Sadiq, the former Oil and Gas Regulation Authority (OGRA) chairman.
A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawad S. Khawaja resumed the hearing of OGRA implementation case.
During the hearing, the NAB’s prosecutor told the court that the UAE police had arrested Tauqir Sadiq but later they released him saying they have no reason to arrest him.
The court remarked that a NAB team went to UAE without Sadiq’s warrants. “That’s why the officials said they had to obey the law,” the bench said.
The bench further said that it seemed that government institutions had a plan to not arrest Sadiq and added that foreign office was also a part the plan.
On Nov 25, 2011. the court had ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct an investigation in cases of corruption against Tauqir Sadiq after declaring his appointment as the chairman of OGRA as illegal.
