Andrew Smith crushes Zinukhov Andriy to surge into semi-final of Cyprus International 2013

England’s emerging player Andrew Smith proved his mettle in the arena and secured his berth in Men’s Singles semi-final after showing exit to Ukraine’s Zinukhov Andriy in quarter-final encounter of Cyprus International 2013 in Cyprus, on Saturday, January 26.

The second seeded Smith, who did not show mercy to any of his opponent in the tournament, maintained his impressive run and easily threw out the un-seeded Zinukhov while consuming just 26 minutes on court.

English shuttler stayed fully focused in the arena as he played with wonderful precision on court and finished off the contest in straight games with a crushing margin of 21-13 and 21-16 on the board.

On the other hand, the un-seeded Zinukhov tried to put up strong resistance against his higher ranked English challenger but failed to maintain his rhythm and eventually crashed out without winning any game.

Smith performed extremely well from the starting rallies of first game as he played with remarkable speed and took over the control of the game.

The hard-to-learn variations in Smith’s strokes helped him to continue his domination against his challenger in the arena.

Until the end of first part of first set, the in-form Smith attained a strong position on board by setting up a sufficient gap.

Zinukhov tried to put up strong resistance but could not take charge of the game and remained trailing in the ending half.

Smith continued hitting powerful smashes in targeted areas and eventually took the opening game with a superb margin of 21-13.

The in-form English shuttler did not lose his supremacy at any stage in the starting part of second set as he played with control and aggression.

The powerful smashes and wonderful net play kept Smith ahead of his challenger all the way until the end of first half in second set.

In the ending part of second game, the impressive Smith continued his smooth sailing and easily grabbed the second set by a stunning score of 21-16.

In the semi-final of this championship, Smith will lock horns against his team-mate Rhys Walker who registered a sensational win over the third seeded Belgian shuttler Maxime Moreels.
