The Gunners overpowered Brighton and Hove Albion in their fourth cup FA Cup tie at the Amex Stadium. They recorded a 3-2 victory against Albion in an intense match.
Olivier Giroud scored the opener in 16th minute and led his side take a 1-0 lead. However, Barnes equalised 17 minutes later. The match went to the half time with same scores.
In the second half, the former La Liga top scorer fired another goal in the 56th minute and took Gunners 2-1 up. However, Albion levelled again after Ulloa scored on his debut.
The Red Army remained focused and got the breakthrough five minutes to stoppage time when Theo Walcott fired the ball in the net.
Arsenal’s boss Arsene Wenger was quoted in an interview to Arsenal Player:
“Brighton are a good team. They made it very difficult for us. We had a little bit of a slow start. They were sharper than us in the first half. In the second half, we were much more in the game and created chances. In the end, we’ve got that extra bit of quality that got us through. We did our job but we needed to fight until the end.”
Giroud displayed spectacular football skills through his span on the field. His brace let the Gunners to the proceeding round.
The Frenchman, Wenger reflected about the Giroud’s man of the match performance:
“It’s good for his confidence [that he scored twice]. He’s scored four goals this week and he had a few more chances today. He gets there. He has a presence in the box, he’s dangerous and his physical presence was very important today.”
Arsenal will next take on Blackburn at the Emirates Stadium.
