Nintendo set to cut price of Wii U sales
Thursday, January 31st, 2013 7:27:32 by Farasat AliNintendo has rectified its forecasts announcing annual losses, the year ending in March, about 180 million Euros instead of the anticipated benefits. They have arguably suffered their first annual loss in three decades.
Nintendo’s flagship product, the new Wii U, has not had the impact of the above. They initially planned to distribute 5.5 million units worldwide. However, the figure was later revealed by the company that it encountered a 20%
deviation.
Also have cut forecasts for 3DS miniconsolas (from 17.5 million to 15) and DS (2.5 to 2.3 million), which begin to be affected by competition from smartphones.
According to the president, Satoru Iwata, has confirmed that the sales of games for the Wii U have not gone as expected, because instead of the 24 million shares they have sold 16 million units in the case of the Wii U.
The balance has been badly hurt by the fall of the yen, a company that exports 70% of its production but also help the health sector as in the world’s largest market, and United States sales of games have declined by 22% and 20%
of consoles.
This year both Microsoft and Sony have announce new consoles, which could revive the sector, although many analysts of the smartphones, with screens in many cases higher than the 3DS, and tablets begin to harm a traditional video
game industry.
