New York Mets officially declare signing of RHP Shaun Marcum

The New York Mets have officially announced signing of right hand starting pitcher Shaun Marcum. The former Milwaukee Brewers ace Marcum signed a one year deal with the Mets worth $4 million.

“I think if all five starters go out there and do their job, stay healthy, get to the goal of 200-plus innings then I think just that will fill R.A’s shoes in itself,” Marcum said during a conference call Wednesday.

“The opportunity to go out and pitch, make 30-plus starts and an opportunity to throw 200 innings – I think that’s every starter’s goal, They’re giving me the opportunity to do that and that’s something that I couldn’t pass up,” Marcum explained.

Last season, playing for the Brewers, he showed good commitment and achieved good numbers with total precision. He finished the season on a high note and remained consistent with 3.70 ERA along with 7-4 win-loss, 109 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP.

Overall he is also carrying good career ERA of 3.76 along with 57-36 win loss, 746 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP. Looking at Marcum’s last season’s performance and career averages, it is a good thing that Mets signed him before entering into a new season.

Marcum will be joining other Mets starters and will try his best to blend with the roster. Marcum along with Dillon Gee, Jonathan Niese and Johan Santana will make an offensive thrust representing the Mets.

All these players are talented and know how much their team is relying upon them. Dillon Gee showed good playing averages last season and finished achieving 4.10 ERA.

Niese also played very well and went with consistent ERA of 3.40 along with 13-9 win loss, 155 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP while Santana also did well on the mound and finished with good numbers of 4.84 ERA along with 6-9 overall win loss record.
