Martin Giuffre proceeds as Toby Ng fails to exceed in 2013 Canadian National Championships
Friday, February 1st, 2013 3:05:35 by Ammad KhawajaMen’s Singles shuttler Martin Giuffre amazed everyone with his outstanding performance in the quarter-final round and gained access to semi-finals on January 31, 2013.
He overpowered a higher ranked compatriot player Toby Ng and setup his next clash with another spirited campaigner Bobby Milroy.
His quarter-final encounter lasted for 47 minutes as the opposing shuttler displayed great fighting spirit until the decisive figures of 21-13, 3-21 and 21-14.
However, Martin managed to lock the honour by prevailing in the opening and ending sets whereas Toby could prove his worth only in the second set.
In the opening game, Martin launched a brisk attack and established an early lead. He did not squander his effort in next couple of rallies and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, the talented Canadian shuttler showed his real class. He ruled the court in few back-to-back rallies and left his competitor far behind on the points table.
He maintained a significant difference until game point situation and registered a winning margin of 21-13.
However, the story was entirely different in very next game as Toby Ng stormed back with a strong reply and brought the contest to right balance.
This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and played authoritative badminton. He made his intentions clear by putting a mountainous total of 11 in no time and then magnified the impact by sweeping the table with 21-3 score.
With such an emphatic end, spectators were expecting the decider to be a nerve-racking contest but it turned a one-sided affair.
Initially both shuttlers were equal but then Martin tipped the scale in his favour with a staggering knock. He maintained an upper hand until final moments and won this crucial set with 21-14 margin.
