Nathan Lyon wants to do what Graeme Swann did in India
Friday, February 8th, 2013 3:50:30 by Rana Nasir GhafoorIncluding Nathan Lyon, seven Australians have reached India slightly before the Test series in order to get acclimatised to the Sub-continent conditions. The Aussies are set to face the Men in Blue in four-match series.
Lyon, who believes it will be a massive challenge, wants to do what Graeme Swann did in India a few weeks ago. Swann played a massive role in England’s comprehensive 2-1 win in the Test series against India.
"It will be big challenge for all of us in different conditions. We have seen India playing four spinners in the last Test against England. So hopefully we will have the opportunity to play two spinners for Australia," Lyon said.
The Kangaroos are on fire at the moment. After doing well against Sri Lanka, the Australian side has defeated West Indies in the ODI series. On the other hand, the Indians have faced a couple of embarrassing losses at home recently.
After being trounced by England in the Test series, Team Blue failed to do anything special in a short limited-over series against Pakistan. They showed some improvement in the ODIs against England though, and won the series.
"I certainly watched (Monty) Panesar and (Graeme) Swann. They bowled quite well. I did watch Swann very very closely and I hope to take in a few things and put the same method in practice against India," Lyon said.
He added, "It is great to have four spinner with Steve Smith, Xavier Doherty, Glenn Maxwell, and myself. So it is a good challenge for all of us for pushing each other along for a spot in first Test side. Its exciting to see Agar coming in with the Australian
side. He is a talented bowler."
The four-match Test clash is scheduled to begin with the opening Test at Chennai on February 22nd. Ahead of meeting India in the Test series, the Aussie side will play a couple of warm-up matches.
The wickets in India are likely to be a paradise for the spinners, but Peter Siddle has already claimed that the Aussie fast bowling attack will play a big role in the series.
