Former Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka signs with Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians have signed former Boston Red Sox starting pitcher and ace Daisuke Matsuzaka to a Minor League contract worth $1.5 million in base salary.

 

The Japanese international Matsuzaka was playing for the Boston Red Sox since 2007. He even did a wonderful job in the recent past Major League season but the Red Sox let him go as he filed for the free agency in offseason.

 

Matsuzaka is coming with a very good season where he sustained his ERA at 8.28 along with 1-7 win loss, 41 strikeouts and 1.71 WHIP. Since coming into the biggest baseball league in the world, Matsuzaka has never faced lost his valour. Currently he is also carrying a good career ERA of 4.52 along with 50-37 win loss, 609 strikeouts and 1.42 WHIP.

 

Recently the Indians have signed another former Red Sox shortstop Mike Aviles for a two-year deal. Aviles was exceptional on the plate in this past season where he played with a consistent hitting average as well.

 

He went smooth at hitting and maintained .250 hitting average along with 13 powerful home runs, 60 RBIs and .282 OBP. Not only he did well on the plate in the last particular season, but he has also done well since his arrival in the big league some four years ago.

 

He currently carries a wonderful career hitting average of .277, 39 home runs, 190 RBIs and .308 OBP. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti has also appreciated the fact that Aviles will be part of the Tribe next season.

 

“We certainly saw Mike being a good fit on the team for multiple seasons, Once we started the negotiating process and understood that Mike had an interest in a multiyear deal as well, we worked to try to get something done,” Antonetti said on a conference call.

 

Indians inside sources are also saying out loudly that the recent development from the Tribe management is certainly will prove much helpful to get good and consistent results next season.
