Thursday, February 14th, 2013 11:00:00 by Farasat AliComputer sales in Europe fell by 8.4% in 2011. According to data from Gartner, 58 million units have reportedly been sold during the year. During the last quarter of the year, the sales of the personal computers declined to 11.7%
(15.3 million units) over the same period of 2011.
In the last quarter, the decline was 12.1%. While in the professional sector, the decline was only 4.9% and the private consumption fell by 17.6%.
The year 2012 was the second consecutive drop in sales but shallower than in 2011, when it fell 14%. According to analysts, the computer industry is facing, apart from the economic weakness of Western Europe, the unattractive new
operating system Microsoft (majority in computers) and the high price of Ultra book laptops.
For brands, HP remains the leader with 21.5% market share, followed by Acer, Lenovo and Asus, the three almost tied with just over 11% of the market share.
