Liverpool crush Swansea City at Anfield – football news

Brendan Rodgers side outclassed the Swansea City at Anfield in the Barclays English Premier League on Sunday. They recorded a 5-0 victory and avenged their 1-3 loss in October.

Liverpool made a convincing start at Anfield. Steven Gerrard scored the opener and the only goal in first half. He notched the ball in after his team was awarded a penalty in the 33^rd minute.

In the second half, Liverpool had a marvellous start as they fired three goals in less than 11 minutes. In the 72^nd minute, the Reds were awarded another penalty and Sturridge scored the fifth goal to seal the match with a 5-0 victory.

The Reds’ boss, Rodgers was quoted in a post match press conference:

“It was an important three points. We’ve been down a bit of a rocky road this week in terms of the games on Monday and Thursday. But the Premier League is very important to us and we knew we had to go out with commitment today against a Swansea team that has been brilliant this season. It was an outstanding performance and we really showed our character and mental toughness today to get a performance like that. Going into the game it was about keeping a clean-sheet because in the last four games, we haven’t been at our best defensively. So I was very pleased. We looked to dominate and create chances and we did.”

Liverpool lost their last two matches. They suffered a brutal defeat at their home ground against West Bromwich in their last Premier League match. In the midweek, they were underplayed against the top Russian side, Zenit St. Petersburg. However, this victory boosted Reds confidence and let them secure the seventh spot in the Premier League rankings.
