Niluka Karunaratne outshines Wei Sheng in first round of 2013 Austrian International Challenge
Friday, February 22nd, 2013 3:21:13 by Ammad KhawajaSri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne employed all of his experience and brilliance in the game and secured a berth in pre quarter-finals of Austrian International Challenge on February 21, 2013.
He overpowered the Men’s Singles expert Loh Wei Sheng in a tussle which lasted for just two games.
Niluka played with an authoritative approach throughout this match and sealed a straight-set victory with 21-19 and 21-12 margin.
On the other hand, the Malaysian shuttler failed to serve notice of his potential and crashed out of this international tournament in a disgraceful manner.
The first set of the match had bit life in it as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game in the establishing rallies.
They put all in their position but neither of them could establish a permanent lead until the half time. The first half of the set ended with both shuttlers standing close on the points table.
However, the Sri Lankan player did not take much time to establish a strong grip. He started the beating immediately after the mid-game break and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
He registered a favourable score of 21-19 and started second set with a psychological edge. Niluka did not give his opponent enough time to get settled and confounded him with a brisk attack.
He kept on moving forward at steady pace and left his competitor far behind on the points table. Though, Wei Sheng showed some resistance in latter part of the game but it was not enough to avoid a straight-set defeat.
Meanwhile, Niluka strengthened his grip and won this crucial match with a convincing figure of 21-12. Now he will resume his campaign in pre quarter-final round of Austrian International Challenge.
