Arsene Wenger praises Arsenal after their win against Aston Villa – Football News

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, praised the gunners after their crucial win against Aston Villa at the Barclays English Premier League. They notched up a 2-1 victory against the Lions to stay in contention for the top four spot.

Spanish playmaker, Santi Cazorla, gave an early lead to Arsenal after firing the goal in just five minutes from the start of the match. The match went to the half time with the same score line.

In the second half, the Villans re-focused and managed to snatch the goal back with help of Weimann in the 68th minute. However, Cazorla eased the pressure on Wenger when he slid the ball in the net after receiving it from Monreal.

As a result, Arsenal are now 1 point short from the fourth placed team, Tottenham Hotspurs.

Wenger was quoted in the post match press conference: “The result was vital today because it was absolutely important to win the game, we could not afford to drop points for two reasons. The first is that we are in a catch-up situation in the Premier League and [secondly] we have come out of two massive disappointments.”

Arsenal recently faced a bad patch when they lost to Manchester City and Chelsea in a row. However, since then the gunners have lifted their game. This was really important for Arsenal if they want to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. The Frenchman reflected: “We cannot drop points, I have said that many times after the Chelsea game. That is what is in our minds, no matter where we go and who we play.”

Arsenal are currently left in one competition this season i.e. UEFA Champions League. They are trailing 1-3 against Bayern Munich and if the Gunners want to end the title drought, they will require a miracle.
