Kovac astonished by Mandzukic’s performances

Former Bayern Munich central defender Robert Kovac claims that star striker Mario Mandzukic is developing really fast and if he continues his present form he can become one of the hottest properties in Europe. The 38-year-old retired at Dinamo Zagreb and was a team-mate of Mandzukic there.
The summer signing has scored 15 goals for Der FCB in the league, which has prompted the defender to say that the attacker has superseded his personal goals in the process. He claimed that at the start of the season he termed his former colleague as a bench warmer for the Bundesliga side.
“Before the season started I had classed him as a reserve player, but his hard work is paying off and he has taken the league by storm,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
“I’m very familiar with Mario. We played together at Dinamo Zagreb and he has really made a huge step forward and changed very much in contrast to his early career,” he added.
“Bayern want to show that these results, like the cup final defeat to Dortmund in Berlin, were just flukes,” he said.
“For Dortmund this year, the cup is probably their only realistic title. The pressure of the situation is finely balanced,” he mused.
“These teams know each other very well. They both want to win and need to win. What a game!” he finally concluded.
Kovac stated that Mandzukic is earning rewards for his hard work and dedication to the cause. On the other hand, Bayern will play Borussia Dortmund in the German cup on Wednesday, and the centre-back suggested that Die Roten are looking forward to get revenge from their fierce rivals.
