PML-N, PML-F agree on election alliance
Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 4:22:12 by Tahir KhanThe Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-F) on Tuesday decided to enter into an electoral alliance in the general elections.
PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif and PML-F Chief Pir Pagara agreed on the alliance in a meeting in Karachi.
Sharif visited the residence of Pir Pagari and discussed political situation in the country and vowed to resist any attempt to derail election process.
The PML-N chief said that no one can dare postpone the elections.
The PML-N and PML-F announced election alliance a day after the PML-N reached a similar understanding with the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rahman.
The PML-N and PML-F alliance is considered as important as the two parties want to give tough time to the PPP.
Senior leaders of the two parties were also present in the talks.
PML-F also proposed that both the parties should run the elections under the same electoral symbol, which is a red rose, in Sindh. However, PML-N did not agree to this proposal.
Despite the mutual agreement on supporting each other’s strong candidates, the previously outstanding issues of seat adjustments and agreeing upon electoral symbols still remained intact, however leaders of both the PML factions resolved to discuss these issues in upcoming meetings.
Committees have been formed, comprising members of both parties, to solve the issues and reach a consensus within the next week.
Sharif also lent his support to the Grand Alliance, which consisted of 10 political parties, formulated by Pir Pagara and offered him to assume the leadership of the Alliance.
The leaders also decided to have dialogues with other parties to persuade them to join the Grand Alliance.
