Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 1:25:36 by Ammad KhawajaEngland’s Rajiv Ouseph played flawless badminton in his opening match of Yonex German Open and secured a berth in second round of Men’s Singles event on February 26, 2013.
He was up against Chen Yuekun of China and both contenders remained head-to-head for 35 minutes. This tussle ended with concluding figures of 21-15 and 21-19.
Rajiv, who is 12th seeded player of this tournament, served notice of his potential by ruling the court in both games.
On the other hand, the Chinese shuttler failed to rise on his toes and crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
With this win, Rajiv setup his next clash with Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong and a win will pave his path to pre quarter-finals.
In his opening match, the British shuttler launched a brisk attack in first set and established a strong grip over contest.
He prevailed in back-to-back rallies and piled up a mountainous figure in no time. This early advantage helped him to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position.
After the mid-game break, Rajiv injected more intensity in his attack and confined his challenger in the rear court. He did not lose focus and placed a winning margin of 21-15.
Next game was also played in similar manner as the Hong Kong shuttler failed to end his bad patch and surrendered tamely.
Meanwhile, the British campaigner relished full benefits of his rival’s blunders and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
At first, Rajiv strengthened his grip over game by clinching few consecutive points and then magnified the impact with few productive rallies in third quarter of the set.
Though, he made some mistakes but it did not stop him from putting an overwhelming figure of 21-19.
