Fast bowlers are always emotional and aggressive – Wahab Riaz
Friday, March 1st, 2013 2:25:40 by Yasir HashmiPakistan’s talented left-arm fast bowler, Wahab Riaz has admitted that he failed to live up to the expectations on some occasions in past but vows to find a permanent place in the national team very soon.
The left-arm pacer has been included in the One Day International (ODI) and T20 squads for the series against South Africa, which is going to begin today with the first T20 at Durban.
Having performed well in the domestic cricket, Riaz was recalled to the national team for the recent tour of India but the cricketer from Lahore failed to get an opportunity.
However, it is very much expected that the fast bowler will get a chance to prove his worth against the Proteas, although there are a number of high-quality speedsters in the squad like Umar Gul, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan.
After a disastrous outing in the Asia Cup 2012 fixture against India at Dhaka, the left-armer claims that he has improved immensely in recent times. He vows to perform better in the series against South Africa, where the fast bowlers are expected to play an important role because of hard and bouncy tracks.
“I know things weren’t right sometimes, and I wavered and leaked so many runs,” he said. “When you are representing your country, you are pumped up and trying to give your hundred per cent. Some days nothing works in your favour, but you move on and come back after working on your deficiency.”
Wahab further added that fast bowlers need consistent opportunities to showcase their skills because they are bound to be aggressive.
“Fast bowlers are always emotional and aggressive – they need time to settle. I still have a case to prove, and I believe this South Africa tour will be an ideal opportunity for me to showcase my abilities,” the 27-year-od cricketer added.
