Wang Yihan overpowers Li Michelle in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final at German Open 2013

China’s former World Number One player Wang Yihan showed her supremacy on court and remained successful in defeating Canada’s Li Michelle in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final of Yonex German Open 2013 on Thursday, February 28, in Germany.

The impressive Yihan, who is the second seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, played with complete command over the pace of rallies and remained successful in defeating her lower ranked Canadian challenger in 40 minutes.

However, it was not a smooth ride for the Chinese as she had to work hard against her un-seeded opponent all the way but she remained successful in controlling the pace in the ending points and won the match with a reasonable margin of 21-17 and 21-17.

Meanwhile, the lower ranked Michelle also gave a good fight to her Chinese challenger in the opening half of first game but failed to stay positive and eventually bowed down to Yihan with a respectable total on the board.

In the starting game, the impressive Yihan showed a spectacular show in the arena as she executed strokes with dictating control from opening points.

The highly elevated craft and wonderful game plan assisted Yihan to keeps her rival in all sorts of problem in the arena at the initial stage.

However, Michelle also elevated her level of play by increasing her speed in all areas of the court and remained successful in making the score leveled towards the end of opening half. Both shuttlers were close until the mid-game interval.

After the one-minute break, it was the second seeded Yihan who geared up her speed in all areas and took over the control of rallies from her Canadian rival.

In the ending points of opening game, the aggressive Yihan stayed calm and confident and she remained successful in taking the opening set with a four-point advantage of 21-17.

In the second set, Michelle was in all sorts of trouble as she could not cope up with the incredible speed and control of her Chinese opponent and remained struggling in all areas of the arena.

Until the one-minute break, the incredible Yihan remained consistent in playing with command and variations and stayed ahead on the board.

The aggressive and positive play in the ending half of second set helped Yihan to bag the game easily with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.

In the quarter-final clash, Yihan will lock horns against Hong Kong’s Tsz Ka Chan who outplayed Singapore’s Juan Gu in the other round-of-16 battle.
